Horsemanship Training Part 2: THERAPEUTIC LESSON SUPPORT

Part 2 Horsemanship Training: THERAPEUTIC LESSON SUPPORT is available for all new and continuing volunteers new and interested in developing skills related to supporting in therapeutic riding lessons. We ask that you attend Part 1 of Horsemanship Training and Orientation prior to attending Part 2. Topics covered will include:

• Preparing a horse for a lesson (grooming, tacking)
• Entering the mounting block area in the arena
• Sidewalking during a lesson
• Horse leading during a lesson

After attending Orientation*, if you are interested in supporting with our equine program, we ask that all new volunteers attend Part 1 and Part 2 trainings prior to officially starting as a volunteer with us at the ranch. Part 3 is optional, but highly encouraged. Each training last approximately 2-3 hours and will be hands on experience with our horses.  HORSEMANSHIP TRAININGS:  Part 1: BEGINNING HORSEMANSHIP - Haltering, Grooming, & Tacking (2 hours) This training is required for all new volunteers. Please attend orientation prior to any trainings.  Part 2: THERAPEUTIC LESSON TRAINING - Grooming/Tacking for a lesson, Leading a horse in a lesson, Sidewalking in a lesson (2.5 hours) Part 1 is a prerequisite for this training and must be completed prior to this training. This training is required for all new volunteers. Please attend orientation prior to any trainings. Part 3: HORSE CARE TRAINING -for those interested in supporting with horse care (2 hours) Part 1 is a prerequisite for this training and must be completed prior to this training. This training is optional, but highly encouraged.
